On the 4th February, 2007, after an arduous 9 day ascent,
Martial Dumas and Jean-Yves Fredericksen, became the first to climb
the right side of the west face of the Petit Dru (3733m), since
the huge rock fall of June 2005, which completely destroyed the
legendary Bonatti Pillar and Harlin-Robbins Direttissima. Sleeping
in a portaledge tent, suspended in the void, the climb was fraught
with danger, not least because of the ever present risk of further
rock slides. Their incredible ascent means their names are worthy
additions to the lists of legendary climbers, whose spirit and bravery,
echo amongst the historical peaks of Chamonix.
