hire from the French side not the international side as the French
taxes are lower reducing the cost of your car hire. Also if you
can avoid the Swiss motorway you will not need to purchase a motorway
tax disc either. Take the A40 from Geneva towards Annemasse on to
the "Autoroute Blanche" motorway until you reach Chamonix.
It's about 1 hour by road. If you do not have a car fitted with
winter tyres then remember to carry snow chains as you may need
them. It's worth practising how to fit them in good conditions and
keep a torch, old jacket and a set of gloves handy.
