Elevation 1904 |

Originating in 1904, this has long been one of Chamonix’s
favourite bars for locals and tourists alike. Now under new ownership,
its unique aspect is that from first thing in the morning until
late at night it seamlessly adapts itself to the needs of its clientele.
For a hearty breakfast before attacking the slopes, their bacon
and egg baguette is sure to start you off on the right track. As
a café by day, it serves a wide selection freshly made sandwiches,
burgers and salads, as well a plat du jour, and for après
ski or drinks before dinner it is a lively bar where tourists and
locals alike can mingle and discuss their exploits of the day. Finally
when you are in the mood for some night-time entertainment, they
often have dj’s and live music playing to help the party swing.
For a great time, anytime of day, you will find the Elevation opposite
the train station.

Head to the jewel of a restaurant, nestling just off the Rue Vallot,
for some authentic Mexican cuisine. You will find all your old favourites
on the menu: fajitas, enchiladas, nachos, and some delicious steaks,
cooked just the way you want them. There are also a variety of vegetarian
dishes from which to choose. The staff, who are extremely friendly,
and who between them speak a variety of languages, certainly know
how to have a good time, so be prepared for anything.
After your meal, you can pop downstairs to the bar, which is always
one of Chamonix’s liveliest hot-spots. Monday nights, when
Hoax play their regular set, are a must. With Chris on the drums
and Nick on the dec’s – this is simply funky music at
its best. Throughout the week the downstairs bar regularly hosts
some great evenings, so if you want to find out what Chamonix nightlife
is all about, then check out the Cantina.
